Traffic Building

Building Traffic & Sales for Your Website

What is Traffic Building? As the name implies, it means doing things that brings traffic to your website.

It isn’t just about getting lots of random traffic though, it is about getting the kind of traffic – targeted traffic, people who are ready to buy - that converts into sales. This means that you need to do certain things to attract the people and companies interested in what you are offering.

Website traffic building can take many forms, different sites use different tactics and some are much more effective than others.

• Social Networking is currently one of the more effective ways to build traffic. Microblogging sites such as Twitter will help to effectively build your traffic but you must remember to Tweet at least once or twice each day.

• Facebook pages can also be very effective in driving traffic to your website. You first need to build up a following or friends on your personal pages and then you can add a Facebook business page and request that your friends become fans of that. You can then send them suggestions, reviews, offers etc. from your business. Care must be taken with the frequency and types of sales messages posted.

• Write articles and blogs to establish your creditability and provide information people want. A link to your website always goes into the bi-line and resource box at the end of the article or blog.

• Postings to various forum can build traffic quickly. Forum postings can present you as an “expert” particularly if your posts are interesting and informative. Many forums will permit you to put a follow-link in the resource box. The forum postings can also be very helpful in getting cross traffic and inbound links.

• Link building is another very effective method for building traffic. There are several different methods for gaining links. You can ask for them by email, you can have such great content on your site that people flock to you naturally or you can put provocative or controversial content on your site so that everyone is talking about you and linking offers come in because of that.

• Newsletters or Aweber forms can be used to get visitors’ email addresses. You can then send them comments or pings when your site information changes thereby encouraging them to come back to check out what's new on your website.

• Wiki Answers can be used very effectively to promote website traffic as well. Asking or answering a question there is remarkably good at encouraging interest so people visit your website for more information.

Traffic building is more of an art than a science although many would say otherwise. You need to try out different methods until you find the ones that work best for you, then you build on those. Know what your audience wants, target the audience you want in the places they are likely to gather. Carefully assess the potential return on investment for the time spent before you bother asking for other people’s links.

You'll find that if you’ve done everything necessary for your website to function properly, SEO everything on it that you can, get your site listed on directories and put yourself about a bit writing articles, on forum and blogs etc. these traffic building efforts should bear reasonably good fruit!
